People’s Money returns to The Vic, teaming
up director Janet DeRuvo with Wade P. Wood and Michael Balch
in the remount of their critically acclaimed 1999 production.
A corporate raider, Lawrence Garfinkle (Wade P. Wood) threatens
a hostile take-over of a “mom and pop” company,
New England Wire and Cable. Company Chairman, Andrew ‘Jorgy’
Jorgenson (Michael Balch) enlists the help of attorney,
Kate Sullivan (Lisa Rosenhagen) to try and protect the company.
Kate is the daughter of Jorgenson’s longtime assistant
Bea Sullivan (Karen Kargel). Caught in the middle is Bill
Coles (Michael Grittner) Jorgy’s right hand man. And
that’s just the tip of this greed-for-greed’s
sake, politically incorrect, dog-eat-dog power struggle,
reminiscent of the 80’s money mongers.

People’s Money is a modern love story: Love of
Money – Love of Power – Love of the Game –
Love of Community. Garfinkle has few loves in life. He loves
doughnuts, dogs, and money - money most of all. His latest
object of desire is New England Wire and Cable. The company
has few debts and lots of assets. But one asset that Garfinkle
didn’t factor into his equation is Kate, the New York
lawyer in her own power suits and polished pumps, who is
just as smart and tough as he.

People’s Money pits avarice, sex and power against
loyalty, community and longevity. Winner takes all. |
